I worked as an UX/UI Intern during the summer of 2025 for a startup called Nombolo.
Nombolo is a social platform built to provide a sense of community, find local spots, and
have judgement free sharing. During this internship I gained experience in startup culture,
Figma, prototypes, research, and more. I worked hand in hand with engineers to build prototypes
that would later be deployed in app. Some of the work I did included icons, search features, rewards,
splashscreens, and user research.

During my internship I conducted research with new users of the app to evaluate the login flow, and creation of both social and business accounts. This information was crucial in figuring out any bugs, errors, or design flaws, as login is the first thing users will encounter. With this information I also created user flow diagrams, and user journey maps in Figma.
One of the tasks I was given was creating designs for the onboarding process. I created various designs that had multiple rounds of iterations as shown above. Although they weren't chosen for the final design, I learned a lot about focus, aligning with a company's style, word choicing, and more. Most of my iterations involved slight changes in color, displayed text, and utilizing more imagery From the app in a 'pop-up' manner. Since we did not have a copy-writer, I came up with some of the language used in the iterations, with tweaks as necessary through input from the marketing team and my design team members.
Nombolo helps users and local businesses create relationships through things like rewards. I was tasked with cleaning up the reward flow, and redesigning the coupons. I fixed the flow to be more intuitive, and adjusted the rewards coupons to have more information showcasing why the user got rewarded, what specific post/ask/comment got a rewarded, and what business gave the reward. I communicated with the engineers to ensure feasability, and sufficient documentation detailing the flow, features, and implementation.
The biggest feature I took on was the development of the search function. I first did research about how search works in other applications, and then met with the developers to discuss what would be feasible. With this information I laid out what the different phases of the search would be, and started designing for the first phase, which would include location, business name, and profile name search. I created two different searchbars, one for the main page, and one for when the user switches to the location view. In the design I included selection by category and sorting.
